If your going to do it then do it right!

Over the last few months I have noticed an influx of chaved up 1.8Ts comming into us  which are in no fit state for remapping, some of them kitted out with every cheap tuning part from ebay which dont work, dont fit right or dont do the job as they should, The there are the owners being led by forum sponsors and getting bad bias advice, A good example is a lot of Skoda 1.8Ts comming to us with the baileys dv30 fitted, which leak boost and dont work well full stop (a basic smoke test can prove this) but the reason the use them is on there forum one of the sponsors who sells them swears by them.
I will go on about the DVs later on.

So you have just brought a 1.8T and your wanting more power and you want to do it correct and safe. The first thing you need to know is what engine and turbo your car has got, when I ask the question "which engine do you have" 90% of owners reply"The 150bhp 1800 turbo", this is where I start wanting to banging my head on a brick.   Just for the Golf GTi 1.8T there are four engine versions all with diffing parts, turbo and emission controls ect. Some have biger ported heads with smaller turbos, some have small port head with a bigger turbo, then the Audi and Seat range go on to the having the even bigger ko4 turbo fitted to 1.8T block running a lower compression ratio to allow for more boost and more advance with out the risk of knock.   Now I have confused you I will begin with the basics ie engine codes then step by step work my way upto telling you how to get over 300bhp, stopping off at stage1 and then stage2.
